Quarter 2- Blog Post #8- New Moon

New Moon
Stephanie Meyer

New Moon continues to get better! I have read so much over break and I absolutely love it! So much has happened. So far, Bella has found out that Jacob is a werewolf and she doesn’t mind, but he has acted very weird and not very friendly at first. He has become apart of “Sam’s gang.” He wasn’t calling her back for about two weeks and then she finally figured out everything, like he was a werewolf and why he wasn’t calling her. Now that Bella knows everything, he is acting himself around her again and he is protecting her from Victoria, who is trying to find her and kill her. So much is going on and Bella decides to jump off a cliff for the thrill. She starts drowning but Jacob comes and saves her. Alice has a vision of Bella jumping off the cliff so she immediately goes to see her even though she knows that it is too late. Bella survives, thanks to Jacob, and Alice comes to see her. One big problem about Bella being friends with Jacob is that werewolves are vampire’s biggest enemies so Alice and Jacob do not get along at all. Because Alice thought Bella would die when she jumped, Edward found out that she was dead so he decided to go and ask the Volturi to kill him. Bella and Alice had to fly to him and prove that Bella was alive so that he wouldn’t die. They get to him just in time but the Volturi tells Edward that Bella will be killed unless they turn her into a vampire. It is a good thing though that Bella wants to become a vampire and Edward is that only one that doesn’t want her to. He now has no choice about it. The whole story is so intense and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Quarter 2- Blog Post #7- New Moon

New Moon

New Moon is getting so good! Bella is healing and become more “alive” and aware what is going on around her. I am so glad that she is becoming such good friends with Jacob Black and that they are really bonding as friends. She has really turned her life around and hasn’t been so down in the dumps. She still thinks about Edward and gets really sad about him but is able to move on and enjoy her time with Jacob. He is a really positive influence in her life and has helped her tremendously. It all started with Bella getting two broken motorcycles to be rebellious and breaking promises to make herself feel better. She went to Jacob to see if he could fix them and teach how her to ride them. In exchange, she gave him one and she spent a lot of time with him while her worked on them. One of the main reasons for being rebellious was to figure out how to hear the voice in her head that she heard in Port Angeles with Jessica. She found out that adrenaline is what made her hear it. While Jacob was teaching her to ride, she would purposely do stupid stunts so that she could hear the voice. When she went to school, she noticed so much more about everyone, but people weren’t really noticing her except for Mike and Angela, who were acting like true friends. I just hope that Bella doesn’t do anything really stupid and thoughtless just to hear the voice. I also hope that she doesn’t go into depression mode again and she continues to spend time with Jacob.

Quarter 2- Blog Post #6- New Moon

New Moon

New Moon is getting so intense and kind of sad because of what happened. Edward left Bella because he says that him and his family need to move on. He also says that she can’t come with him and that he is sorry for having their relationship to even had started. After this happens, Bella goes into a depression mode for the next couple of months. Charlie gets very worried about Bella and thinks that it might be a good idea for her to go and live with her mom but she refuses and wants to stay in Forks and finish high school. To get Charlie off her back, Bella goes to a movie with Jessica. Jessica is kind of mad at Bella though for ignoring her and not being very friendly but the only reason that Bella is acting like this is because she misses Edward. I really hope that Edward will come back sometime and apologize for leaving her. It is also sad that Alice is also gone because she doesn’t really have a close girl friend to talk to anymore. I wish that since Edward left, he could have at least taken Bella with him. I think that it kind of shows that he doesn’t really care about her and doesn’t love her as much as it seemed in Twilight. So far though, I like New Moon more than Twilight because there is more action and it is more exciting. All that I hope for is a good outcome and that Edward will come back for Bella soon.

Quarter 2- Blog Post #5- New Moon

New Moon

New Moon is continuing to get better as I dive into it more. Ever since Bella’s birthday, Edward has been acting really strange and it is kind of bugging me, along with Bella. It is sad that Jasper was sent away and that Alice went with him, but I guess it is for the better since he could have been harmful. I wonder when they will come home though and exactly where Jasper will be going fir the time being. I really want to know why Edward is acting so weird and I am hoping that Bella will ask. You can really feel the whole mood of the book changing because of Edward’s attitude. I feel like Edward knows something bad is going to happen or he is just really angry but doesn’t want to tell Bella why. I do really think that something bad will happen though. The overall setting of the book makes it seem that way. I thought it was very nice of Esme and Carlisle to give Bella that present though. It was something very thoughtful and wasn’t just a thing. I also thought that Edward’s present was very cute because of the fact that he sang her lullaby and recorded it for her. I do wonder what will happen when Bella and Edward go to Jacksonville together though, since Edward can’t be out in the sun without shining. It will be interesting to see how everything turns out with the trip, Edward’s attitude, Jasper and Alice, and Bella and Edward’s relationship.

Is it a good idea for babies to be allowed in the work place?

Armour, Stephanie. "More Companies Let Babies Come to Work." USA Today 30 Mar. 2008. SIRS Researcher. SIRS Knowledge Source. Edina High School, Edina. 6 Dec. 2008 http://www.sirs.com.

The journalist, Stephanie Armour, is a journalist for the newspaper, USA Today who doesn’t really seem to have a point of view on the topic of babies coming to work. Even though she isn’t opinionated, she interviews different people that are, and readers able to see all sides of the story. I think this article is intended for anyone who wants to be informed about workplaces but also parents with babies. Having read this article, parents can learn that it could be a possibility to bring their child to work, depending on where they work. This article is about the opinions of brining babies to work and if it is a distraction or a helpful thing.

Sharples, Tiffany. "Bringing Babies to Work." Time 3 Jan. 2008. Business & Tech. 6 Dec. 2008 http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1699879,00.html.

Tiffany Sharples, a writer for Time Magazine, also wrote an article about bringing babies to work. She talks about it becoming more popular and the different viewpoints on it, just like Armour did except Sharples interviews people with different jobs in the workplace and looks at what they say. I think that this article is intended for anyone that works, because it talks about the different opinions and you could be in the same situation as the one of them. Again though, this article is probably also intended for parents of babies and seeing what others really think about babies coming into the workplace. This article is also about bring babies to work and how it is becoming more popular.

New Moon

Now that I have finished Twilight and seen the movie, I am on the New Moon! So far I have really enjoyed it but I am really going to have to get into to it more to really understand what it will be about. From my friends, I have heard that it is more action packed; yet the things that happen aren’t good. I am excited to read what will happen and about all of the events that will take place. So far, Bella has just woken up and it is her birthday. I think that her dream that she had had the night before was strange but at the same time, could be reality for her and Edward if no one turns her into a vampire. It is sad but true that she will only grow older as Edward stays the same age but they will make it work somehow. I wonder what they will do though, if no one ever changes Bella because people will start being curious about why Edward is still the same age. I definitely understand why Bella is so sad about it being her birthday but I think that she might as well make the most of her special day because it only comes once a year and she technically grows older every day and never acts like this. It is very kind of the Cullen’s to throw Bella a party and give her gifts even though she didn’t want any. The end of the chapter left off with a cliffhanger and I am excited to keep reading. I wonder what Edward and Alice had ended up giving Bella and what will happen with Jasper and that incident.

Quarter 2- Blog Post #3- Twilight

Twilight

I finally finished Twilight and it was amazing! The part with James hunting Bella was so suspenseful and my favorite part of the book. I loved all of the action and adventures that took place. I am also very happy that Bella survived and wasn’t injured too badly. I do wish that Bella would tell her parents the truth of what happened, because I feel like things are much more complicated when Bella lies to them. I know that she can’t tell them that she is with vampires though. I guess I would probably do the same thing if I were in her shoes. Now that I finished the book, I am going to see the movie and I can’t wait! I just hope it will be as good as the book was if not better. I have heard great reviews though. The book continued to get better as I read it but I didn’t love the ending. I wish that Edward had taken Bella to a place that she would have actually enjoyed going to. One thing that bothers me is how Jacob Black was bribed to talk to Bella and convince her to leave Edward. I guess that it is nice that the Billy Black are looking out for her but it is annoying that he is so into her business. Overall, I loved the book and can’t wait to start New Moon.

Quarter 2- Blog Post #2- Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer

Twilight is getting very hard to put down now. It is very suspenseful and exciting. The visitors finally come and there is one of them who wants to kill Bella. Edward and his family are doing as much as they can to keep Bella safe and get rid of the tracker. She feels that they are doing too much for her and doesn’t really get why they are risking so much. Alice said it is because Edward has finally found someone and they don’t want him to be miserable if something happens to Bella. I am also worried about Charlie though because what Bella said to him was very mean and I’m afraid that the tracker might injure him even though Esme is keeping an eye on him. Right now if I was in Bella’s situation, I would be really scared. Waking up at a random place and not remembering getting there just freaks me out. I am also really scared to see what happens with the tracker and where he went. In Alice’s vision, it sounded it he was going to be in a really creepy place but Bella later recognizes it as the ballet studio. They finally come to a conclusion and think that he tracker is coming to Arizona since they lost track of him. There is one problem with that, that’s where Bella is. Then they get on the topic about how her mom is coming back to town and starting worrying about her meeting the tracker. So much is happening and I can’t wait to keep reading to see how it turns out between the tracker and Bella, if they even get involved together.

Every time that I sit down and read Twilight, it gets better because more is going on. Where I left off, is definitely a big cliffhanger. I can’t wait to continue to read and see what happens while the visitors are here, now that they have finally arrived. I am very happy that Bella decided to tell her dad about Edward. Even though Billy is a nice guy, it is kind of annoying that he is so into her business, but I guess that it is nice of him to care for her. I am also happy that Edward is protecting Bella and sticking by he side while the visitors are there. I am very excited to learn more about them and see why the Cullen’s worry so much about them coming. It is very cool to see Edward and Bella to continue to bond and stick with each other. I also loved how accepting the Cullen’s are of Bella and are also looking out for her when the visitors come. Since I left off with the visitors about to enter the scene, I am excited for the action to start and see how everything turns out. I am worried for Bella though, and that she will get injured in one way or another. I have no idea what to expect of the visitors other than that because of their visit, Edward will be watching Bella like a hawk. I can’t wait to read and see what will start to happen and how everything turns out.

Blog Post #7: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapters 11- 16

Twilight has gotten so good since the last time I read. More and more of my questions are continuing to get answered. Finally the day comes when Edward and Bella hang out together. They decide not to go to Seattle anymore because it was supposed to be a sunny day. We find out that on sunny days Edward’s real appearance shows through. Instead he takes her on a hike and to a meadow. There Bella is able to see the real him. She doesn’t get scared or anything. If I were she, I would have backed out of the relationship from the beginning. I don’t know if I would want to take the chances of being in love with a vampire. Bella is a very strong person though and sticks with Edward the whole time. They confess their love to each other and he says that he always wants to be with her. I think that it is kind of sad that they are in love but he says that they can’t get married. This is because it would be too dangerous and he says he would be too scared that he might hurt her. One thing that I am curious about is what will happen once the “visitors” come. I also wonder how they could hurt Bella if Edward wasn’t with her. I am very excited to read about that and see how it will go. Twilight has been such a great book and I can’t wait to finish!

Blog Post #6: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapters 8- 10

Since the last time that I have blogged, so much has happened. The book is definitely continuing to get better. Bella goes on the shopping trip to Port Angeles with Angela and Jessica. That turns into a very eventful night and Bella finds out so much. Bella is walking around by herself and is being stocked. Right before something bad was about to happen, Edward shows up. She gets in his car and they have a very long conversation. He pretty much reveals the he is a vampire as Bella asks him a ton of questions. I am very happy to finally know what was going on with him and that there was an explanation. As they’re talking, Edward just confesses and answers all of Bella’s questions. Everything starts to make sense to her. Even though it is confirmed that he is a vampire, she still is in love with him and doesn’t care what he is. He tells her that it is her chose to love him but he is dangerous. He admits that he likes her too and that he is always wondering about her, so he likes to stay close. One thing that I don’t get is why Bella won’t just tell her dad about Edward being apart of her life. Why does she have to hide it? Another question that I have is; has Bella been that only person that Edward Cullen has revealed his secret to? I am really curious to see what will happen next since Bella knows that he is a vampire. I just hope that she doesn’t get into any dangerous situations and she will be hurt (mentally and physically) by Edward. I have so many questions and I can’t wait to keep reading and see if they will be answered.

Blog Post #5: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapters 6-7

Twilight is still continuing to get better. More exciting events are occurring and things are changing. One thing that I’m happy about in the book is that the sun is actually coming out in Forks for some of the first times since Bella has been there. The sun makes Bella have better moods, which makes it more enjoyable for the reader. I am very curious about Edward Cullen though. Ever since Bella was told the myth of the vampires on the beach by Jacob Black. The description seems to fit his character but we will just have to see. I wonder what Bella will act normal around him now that she thinks that he is a vampire. I wonder if she actually will just give up on him or get herself into more danger. If I were she, I would stay away or I would have trouble believing that he actually is a vampire. There is no proof of it yet, other than what Bella had read. I also might feel differently about my attractions to him and letting him go so easily because I’m not actually Bella and really know him as a person. I also am really curious to know if Edward will return to school soon and he will go on the road trip with Bella. If he does I really want to know what will happen and if he will turn into a vampire. If he is one for sure, it explains all of the confusion about his eyes changing colors, and being able to save Bella’s life. It also is ironic how he chooses to skip biology class the day that they are pricking blood. Everything is starting to slowly come together and make sense. I can’t wait to keep reading and see how everything turns out.

Blog Post #4: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapter 4-5

Twilight is continuing to get better and become more suspenseful. One thing that bothers me though is how unpredictable Edward Cullen is. I would have never expected for Edward to actually talk to Bella again after the accident. He was such a jerk to her for about a month and didn’t say one word to her. Poor Bella keeps on fantasizing about him and she can’t control herself. When Edward starts talking to Bella again, he apologizes but he also says that she shouldn’t be friends with him anymore. I didn’t see that coming but as the book continues Edward is just getting nicer and nicer to Bella. He even offers to drive her to Seattle for the day. Obviously he wants to be friends with her since he offered that, so there must be a reason that he told her that. I have yet in the book to figure what it is but I think that blood accident in biology is a fore- shadow to something that might happen or she will come in sight of blood again and it won’t be a good situation. I am excited to keep reading and see what will happen when they go to Seattle. I also wonder if Edward will ever turn a jerk again in the book and if Bella will ever listen to him when he warns her that they shouldn’t be friends. He wants to be, like I said but there is a reason he warns her but I don’t think that she really understands that. It will be interesting to see if she will regret that also. I can’t wait to continue reading to see how the day trip goes!

Blog Post #3: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapters 2-3

Twilight had started to become more intense and suspenseful. After Bella hit her head, I have started to wonder what is up with Edward Cullen. From reading what happened Bella obviously saw that Edward wasn’t there at the time. I just don’t get why he can just lie to her face like that when she knows what she saw. Tyler also noticed that Edward wasn’t at the scene before either. I wish that Edward would just confess to Bella what happened because she is already suspicious and knows that something is up. I also think that Edward should be able to trust Bella because if you think about it, who would she actually tell Edward’s secret to? What bugs me the most is not only that Edward won’t reveal his secret, but also that he is being a jerk about it and acting as if nothing ever happened. I am also curious about the first day of school though when Edward was being really mean to Bella but then finally returns to school and is really sweet to her. It just seems to me like two totally different people so that is kind of another hint of something that is going on that we don’t really know about. I also wonder about his eyes and how they changed colors. Again, it is something to add to the list to be suspicious about. If I were Bella I would try to get to know Edward better so that she becomes friends with him and he might spill his secret. I feel that if we find out his secret that will explain all of the weird things that have happened.

Blog Post #2: Twilight

Twilight
Stephanie Meyer
Chapter 1

Twilight has been a very interesting and intriguing book so far. It is about Bella Swan moving from Phoenix, AZ to Forks, WA to live with her dad. She hates it in Forks but decides to go and give it a chance. So Bella goes to Forks, her dad buys her a truck and she starts school the next day. When she started school, I could totally relate because I moved here from OH in fourth grade and I was the new kid too. She was going through the same thing as I on her first day but people were very nice to her and she didn’t have trouble finding a place to sit at lunch. There were classmates of hers that were offering to walk her to class and just welcomed her with open arms. My first day experience was a little bit different because I was in elementary school when I moved and she was in high school so I had a homeroom and the class stayed together all day. During Bella’s first day of school she noticed a group of flawless looking people at lunch. She couldn’t stop staring at a boy named Edward Cullen but when he saw her he just glared at her back. She happened to have the next hour with him and was told to sit right next to him. The whole time he just gave her the evil eye and she became a little worried. I feel bad for Bella and her somewhat rough first day of school. I’m just happy that mine didn’t turn out quite like hers did.

Blog #1: College Applicant's, Beware: Your Facebook Page is Showing

Wall Street Journal September 18, 2008 College Applicants, Beware: Your Facebook Page is Showing
By John Hechinger

The article that I chose to write about was about Facebook and how colleges are able to access it. When applying for colleges is Facebook something you want the admissions offices to be looking at? Personally, I wouldn’t want them looking at mine and learning a lot about my personal life, but who would? I can see the side that the colleges are coming form though. I think for them Facebook is a way that you can really see what the person is like and actually does in their free time. There are many things on people’s profiles that you can learn about the person and for colleges that can learn more about you from you Facebook whether you like it or not. If you have one bad picture on Facebook though you might not be accepted and for me, I don’t think that it’s very fair. Just because you make one mistake in high school and colleges find out about it through your Facebook you aren’t able to get into that college. I guess Facebook might also help you as well, if it shows what you do in your free time, like extra curricular activities or things that don’t include drinking, drugs, and other illegal activities. Personally, I think I want to delete my Facebook when I start applying for colleges because I don’t want them being that close to my personal life and I don’t want to have anything in there that I might have forgotten about that the colleges could use against me.
